Love All, Serve All

The Cain’s are a Rock Point Church home grown missionary family that we are proud to support. Mike, Joni and their family are in the midst of changing their lives by moving to Japan. They have been called to Japan, and Rock Point Outreach is supporting their calling to go live beyond themselves in a foreign land.

Hi everyone! It is getting super hot here in Japan. During this summer we started something called “Best Brunch” for our graduates. We are trying to figure out how to encourage and connect our graduates to community. Usually after these graduates get jobs, they spread out all over Tokyo and work a typical Japanese job with lots of overtime and few days off. So it can be quite challenging to get together with them.

So, we had brunch with some of them and discussed the topic of “identity” from Psalm 139:

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Psalms 139:13-14 NLT

We had an excellent discussion about how God has made us with good points and bad points. It’s easy to be thankful for the good parts of ourselves. But even in the broken places God loves us, and for that we can be thankful.

Two of the graduates are mixed ethnicities, and had to really wrestle with their identities growing up. And they both shared that this struggle pushed them to figure out who they really are, and this Bible passage really spoke to them. Usually, in Japan’s Shame-based culture you carefully guard your flaws and self-doubts with your life. But in this discussion, we saw our Japanese friends opening up about how God has made them. This is the kind of community that we long to see and that only God can make: people who are not ashamed of their brokenness and are growing in thankfulness of themselves and others.

Pray that God would continue to bless our graduates and that we would help them find community where they can experience God’s love.

As for the campus, there is still no real news about what is going on. We continue to see school officials discreetly taking pictures of our group. But still nothing official has happened. The good news is that instead of running away, our students are taking more ownership of the group! God is definitely using this for good!

Please continue to pray that God would change the hearts of the school officials and that all suspicions will be dropped.

ROCK POINT MISSIONS’ ROLE

Rock Point Missions has supported the Cain’s through the Navigators for years and will continue to do so. They are living Rock Point Church’s principle to Go Live Intentionally and spreading the word of God while breaking down barriers.

FUTURE ACTIVITY

The Navigators program in Japan is one of trying to embrace the culture while bringing the word of God to people completely unfamiliar with Jesus. A leader the Cain’s know in Japan told them “Almost all of the young Japanese Christians that I have been in contact with did not know a single Christian their entire lives – not a single cousin, uncle, aunt or family member, not a single co-worker or fellow student or neighbor.” Rock Point Outreach will support the Cain’s in their spiritual journey to spread the word of God.
